Pinora Township Home
Pinora township is famous for lumbering. The name Pinora itself, implies it was once covered by a vast pine forest, that was logged off in the late 1800's. The timber industry remains very important today.
In 1941 the Reed City Oil field was discovered along the eastern edge of the township. In 1994,
Michigan Technological University, Western Michigan University, and Rock Energy Company began a
three-year program designed to evaluate the potential of Michigan
Basin Dundee oil reservoirs for additional recovery.
In 1893 the township hall was built. In 1954 it was moved one mile south to its present location. Stowe Lake, in Pinora Township, is one of the many lakes that give Lake County its name. Pinora Township also holds Deer Lake.
Pinora Township is located in Lake County, Michigan. Pinora represents the south west corner of the county. The county seat is located in Baldwin, MI.
